Double Deadlines, Double Exhibitions..

What a crazy day today was. My son went back to school this morning, now that the winter recess is over... Thank gods!... My lil girl and my son are like hellfire and damnation when they are together... They know to take advantage of Mommy's insanity...  I was about to run headfirst into the wall just to quieten down the freaking voices in my head, that were screaming about meeting today's deadline. It was bad enough that the frame I was trying to paint refused to take on the acrylic paints, but a black spray paint?? It was supposed to create 'hammered' look after it dries off.. Every time I sprayed it on the stupid frame, it would always end up with small areas looking 'hammered' and the rest of the frame looking smooth... Aughhhhh!!! I used up half spray can trying to get this look acheived every couple hours all day between coats but it just wouldn't work. So it wins.. I'll give it the prize of being smashed into smithereens with the hammer in the morning.

On the other hand, I managed to squeeze in some time to get prints made and pick up another frame. I used a metallic card-stock for the mat, and stickers on the glass.. It took me a bit to get it all together but I made it in by the deadline. So, my photo, "Yummy" will be on exhibition at Bear & Bird Boutique & Gallery's "Be There Be Square" show inside TATE'S from Jan 15 - Feb 26th. Talk about cutting it pretty close! I also barely made the deadline last Friday when I thought I had until midnight to submit few photo entries at Flamingo Gardens for their upcoming exhibition, "Flamingo Fest", when actually, it was at 5pm. Auuuughhhhh! So, I submitted 2 photos out of 3, (If I had more time, I'd submit in 3 photos)... I received an email from them stating that one image was accepted. I'm still in shock about it but that's pretty awesome. I really didn't think I was gonna be asked to join. This is a juried exhibition! I'll have to get the print made tomorrow and get it framed for the drop-off on Thursday to be display from Jan 15th - Feb 28th. Wow.. 2 exhibitions at the same time.. Of course, in my rush to get things done today, I forgot to take picture of completed frame of "Yummy".. but here's a picture of "Flamingo Sky" that was accepted for Flamingo Gardens. *happy dance*

Have a good night, folks. I'm off to sort through vintage craft supplies that I dug out of the pits of the hellhole that I call my closet.

Day 2 - Artist or Painter?

Being an artist is sometimes frustrating.. When I have this awesome, great idea, I try to bring it to fruitation, often I get amazing results. Sometimes I get failures.. This project, is begging to earn the big failure label but I'm not ready to pin that fail ribbon on this project just yet. I haven't even gone to get the picture printed out so I need to get that done in the morning.  I still have until tomorrow evening to drop it off for the exhibition. Who knew painting a freaking small square frame would be this anagozing task. First, it didn't want to be cherry blossom pink, so I tried to repaint over it with irisdecent glitter dust. No matter how many coats of paints I put on the it, it wouldn't take. So I stripped the paints off.. It seems that it doesn't like acrylic paints. Come on! It's not like the frame's plastic, but it is resin! Jeez!

Good thing I kept few cans of spray paints in the closet.. That was my weapon of choice to bend the frame to my will. It was utterly defenseless against the spout of great blackness. So, it got few good coats of black silk sheen. Next is to figure what object d'art will take up the small space on the front frame. It looks like I'll be burning the midnight oil, yet again. Sometimes it's good to have mild insomnia. Aye? Time for me to boil water to make cup of tea.. with 10 tea bags in it.. That should give me the extra jolt.

Day 1 of my 365 Days Project

This is the first day of my 365 project.. I've seen others do it with their own 365, so I'm going to mix it up with mine and add a blog to it. I figure I might as well start blogging since I usually post on my FB status almost everyday.. Instead of posting 10 times a day, I'll just ramble about my day in one shot and take a picture to post on this blog.. That is my 365 days project. No matter where I am or what kind of mood I am in, I will take a picture to post every single day, for the next 365 days.. I have the themes set up so I cannot post the same theme/subject in the same week. So that's 7 different themes a week. I also will blog about my thriftiness as well, as that is what I LOVE to do. I'm fortunate to live less than 2 miles away from the Sunrise Swap Shop.. And lots of various thrift stores as well such as Salvation Army, Goodwill, Faith Farm, World Thrift, etc, etc.. Plus few furniture thrift warehouses where I'm keeping an eye out for a red Victorian style fainting couch.

So, here's the first picture of the day. I went to Target to see if I could find 2 rods clothing rack, and while there, I got sidetracked by their 75% off all Christmas merchandise..  Dang... I cannot say no to 75% off,  so off I went to dig through their couple aisles to see what I could find. I dug so deep that I found few goodies left that others missed.. Yep, gotta get to the bottom of these bins and carts in the clearance sections.. I found 2 small bags of unbreakable ornaments for the kids to put on their tree at the end of this year. I also found few cute ornaments for myself as well. They're now putting out the Valentine's Day stuff.. I found few packets of sweet scrap-booking papers that I plan to make few crafts for my 1st indie vintage market in Feb. I'm so excited about that!

Tomorrow, I might hit the swap shop to see what treasures will be waiting for me. Until then!
Ciao.
